Pundit names one thing that will shock Pochettino if he rejoins Tottenham

Former Tottenham midfielder and pundit Jamie O’Hara has told talkSPORT (8 March, 11 pm) that Mauricio Pochettino should return to the club, and joked the manager would be shocked to see the same players still there from his previous spell at Spurs.

Pochettino was the manager of Tottenham from the summer of 2014, through to his dismissal in November 2019. The Argentine coach was highly respected at the club and a real fan favourite, too.

He led Spurs to the Champions League final in 2019, only to lose to Liverpool on the night. Pochettino was then relieved of his duties six months later, after a poor start to the subsequent campaign.

Three-and-a-half years, and a handful of managers later, it appears Pochettino could be set to take the top job at Tottenham once more (The Athletic).

Current manager Antonio Conte is looking increasingly at risk of losing his job, and the man himself even admits he thinks the sack may be looming (Prime – via Fabrizio Romano).

O’Hara certainly thinks it’s time for Pochettino to come back, but thinks it will be funny for the 50-year-old to see just how little the Spurs squad has changed since he was last there.

He said: “Get him back now! [Pochettino is] going to look at Ben Davies and Eric Dier and say; ‘How are they still here?’

“He is going to look at the dressing room and say; ‘What has changed?'”

On Tottenham’s performance against AC Milan in the Champions League this week, O’Hara added: “It really is too much.

“You are expecting a big result tonight, on the front foot, a bit of passion. It just wasn’t there!”

“I am getting sick to death of talking about it. It is hard to talk about it because you build yourself up.

“And, truthfully, you just want to see the team play well. No fight, no passion, no desire.”

It really is a bad sign when you consider how many players are still stagnating at Spurs almost four years later.

After all these managers have come in (and gone) you’d expect some kind of turnover in the playing squad, but it just hasn’t happened.

We desperately need a clear-out and a rebuild this summer!
