Pundit names Spurs star as surprise selection in team of the season so far

Tim Sherwood has surprisingly named Dejan Kulusevski in his team of the season so far, despite the Tottenham man missing a chunk of the campaign.

Kulusevski had an excellent start to the season, with the Swede continuing from where he left off towards the end of last season. However, the winger spent over a month on the treatment table after picking up a hamstring injury during the international break at the end of September.

The former Juve man’s absence was certainly felt by Antonio Conte’s men, whose downturn in form coincided with the winger being sidelined.

Kulusevski showed just what Tottenham have been missing on his return to the starting eleven, with the 22-year-old being the Lilywhites’ most threatening attacker in their 4-3 win over Leeds last Saturday.

Despite playing just nine Premier League games in the first part of the season, the winger found a place in Sherwood’s team of the season while the likes of Harry Kane, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur did not make the cut.

The former Spurs interim head coach told talkSPORT: “Kulusevski on the right-hand side, I think he’s been brilliant.

“It just shows you, coming back into the team at the weekend, making the difference. He’s got great quality, still very young, 22 years of age. But he’s been brilliant up to now.”

Had Kulusevski not gotten injured, he would have been a shoo-in for the team of the season, given that he has six goal contributions in his nine league appearances so far (Transfermarkt).

However, I do not think he deserves to make the team ahead of the likes of Bukayo Saka, Miguel Almiron and Phil Foden, given his lack of game time this season.
