Pundit names the one player Tottenham ‘have to’ sign this summer

Jamie O’Hara has urged Tottenham to pay what is necessary to bring James Maddison to the club in the summer.

Maddison has been one of the standout players in the Premier League this season despite Leicester City being mired in relegation trouble, with the midfielder having 14 goal contributions in 19 league games so far in 2022-23 (Transfermarkt).

The 26-year-old is set to enter into the final 12 months of his contract in June and it emerged last month that the Foxes are trying to tie the player down to a new deal to ward off interest from the likes of Spurs (90 min).

However, Football Insider subsequently reported that the former Norwich City star has made up his mind to join a Champions League club in the summer, and asserted that the Lilywhites are not shy about getting into a bidding war with the likes of Manchester City and Newcastle for the player.

O’Hara believes that Tottenham should do whatever it takes to beat the likes of the Magpies to the England international’s signature.

The former Spurs midfielder told GiveMeSport: “Next season, Tottenham have to bring in James Maddison.

“For me, they’re probably going to be competing with Newcastle for him.

“I think he’s a player that Spurs need, or at least someone very similar to him.”

I can understand why Conte did not want an attacking midfielder of Maddison’s profile, given that the 26-year-old does not fit naturally into the Italian’s preferred 3-4-3 system.

However, one would think that whoever replaces Conte will likely want a bit more creativity in the middle of the park, which is something that Spurs certainly lack.
