Pundit names the team Spurs should be looking over their shoulder at in top four race

Tim Sherwood has claimed that Tottenham Hotspur will be fancying their chances of finishing in the top four this season after they closed the gap to Newcastle United with their win over Manchester City on Sunday.

A couple of weeks ago, it seemed as though Spurs were being left behind in the race for the Champions League places but back-to-back wins over Fulham and City have changed the picture for Antonio Conte’s men.

With Newcastle drawing four of their last five league games, only a point separates the Magpies in fourth place from Tottenham in fifth, although Eddie Howe’s men do have a game in hand over the North Londoners.

Finishing in the top four again this season could prove crucial for the Lilywhites, with reports over recent days indicating it could aid the club in convincing Harry Kane to sign a new deal (The Telegraph).

Sherwood believes Liverpool are no longer contenders for Champions League qualification following their 3-0 loss to Wolves on Saturday.

The former Spurs midfielder told Premier League Productions (05/02/23 at 7:20 pm): “If I am Tottenham and I want to get into the top four. Then I am looking over my shoulder at one team.

“Liverpool are out of it. There is something not right there. Chelsea are only going to get better with the world-class players they have signed.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Newcastle and Eddie Howe do not have any experience competing near the top end of the table at this stage of the season and there are some signs that the wheels might come off a bit at St James’ Park. So, I am quite confident that we will be able to secure a top-four finish.
