Jamie O’Hara has pointed out that Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason were barking orders on the touchline throughout the 90 minutes against Manchester City in Antonio Conte’s absence.
Conte underwent surgery to remove his gall bladder early last week and was thus unable to take charge of the game against City.
In the Italian’s absence, Stellini and the rest of the coaching staff were tasked with preparing the team for the game, and the players certainly responded, delivering a solid performance to overcome the reigning Premier League Champions 1-0.
According to The Daily Mail, Conte is expected to arrive in London this week if he is given the medical clearance to travel, with the Italian potentially taking charge of the team’s preparation for the clash against Leicester City on Saturday.
O’Hara noted that Stellini and Mason filled the void left by Conte’s absence on Sunday by constantly shouting instructions throughout the game against City.
The former Spurs midfielder told talkSPORT (8:43 am, February 6, 2023): “The assistant manager and Ryan Mason were up pretty much the whole game barking out orders.”

In a way, it was a blessing in disguise for Stellini, Mason and the rest of the coaching staff that we were facing City rather than a smaller club as it is always easier to get the players up for a big game.
It seemed like the players also created a sort of siege mentality in Conte’s absence and were motivated to get a result for the 53-year-old.
