Pundit predicts ‘a lot of big teams’ will be fighting for 22-year-old alleged Spurs target

Jonathan Woodgate has insisted that Crystal Palace left-back Tyrick Mitchell, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham’s radar, has taken his game ‘to the next level’ this season.

Mitchell’s consistent displays for Palace have earned the youngster a call up to the England squad. It emerged last week that Antonio Conte wants to upgrade at left wing-back this summer as he is not convinced by Sergio Reguilon (Football Insider).

According to The Sun, Mitchell is one of the options on the North Londoners’ radar ahead of the summer transfer window.

The report claimed the youngster could be on the move from Selhurst Park at the end of the season but suggested the Lilywhites could face competition from the likes of Manchester City, Newcastle United and Chelsea for the 22-year-old.

Woodgate believes that Mitchell has become a much-improved player under Patrick Vieira this season and suggested the left-back is ready to take a step up in his career.

The former Tottenham defender told BBC Radio 5 Live Sport (26/03/22): “I think he has come on more this season.

“I know it was his first season with Roy Hodgson, but what he has done this season with Vieira, he has raised his game again.

“He has gone again and gone to the next level. You can see a lot of the big teams are chasing him and they will be after his signature. He’s a really good defender.

“I love him in one v one situations. He is difficult to get past. But he can get forward as well. He’s quick. Hard to beat. I really do rate him as a player.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I do not think Mitchell would be a very good fit for Conte’s system unless the Italian plans on using him in the left centre-back role. The 22-year-old is excellent defensively and decent on the ball but he is not threatening enough going forward to play as a wing-back.
