Pundit predicts Harry Kane will stay if Tottenham sign one England teammate

Darren Ambrose has suggested that Harry Kane will commit his future to Tottenham Hotspur if the North London club sign James Ward-Prowse in the summer.

Kane will enter the final 12 months of his contract this June and some publications suggest that Spurs are hopeful that the striker will commit to a new contract (Football Insider).

However, the speculation linking the 29-year-old with the likes of Manchester United and Bayern Munich shows no signs of dissipating (Telegraph).

It was reported by talkSPORT a few days ago that Tottenham and West Ham United are both monitoring Ward-Prowse as Southampton fight to preserve their Premier League status.

The report explained that even though the midfielder does not have a release clause in his contract, the Saints will not stop him from leaving if they go down this season.

Ambrose believes that the Southampton captain is just the sort of signing Spurs need to make to convince Kane of their ambition.

The pundit told talkSPORT about Ward-Prowse: “I’d take him at Spurs for £50m. I think he’s the perfect player that Spurs need that goes from defence to attack.

“And he can be that link to the play and I think you’ve got the players that will do the dirty work – the dog work – in terms of [Pierre-Emile] Hojbjerg and [Oliver] Skipp and players like that.

“I think he’s fantastic. Listen, you sign James Ward-Prowse, Harry Kane stays. That’s an extra ten goals a season for him with his deliveries.”

Spurs Web Opinion

There is no doubt that Ward-Prowse will add 10 to 15 goals a season as a result of his direct and indirect set-piece ability.

However, I do not think the 28-year-old would be much of an upgrade on our current central midfield options when it comes to general play.

I am also not sure that Ward-Prowse would be enough of a statement signing to convince Kane of the club’s ambition.
