Pundit predicts Spurs star will beat Harry Kane to World Cup Golden Boot

Danish legend Thomas Sorensen has backed Tottenham forward Richarlison to win the Golden Boot at the World Cup.

Richarlison has been in fine form for Brazil over the last 12 months and is expected to lead the line for the Selecao in Qatar.

The 25-year-old has only found the back of the net twice for Spurs in the first part of the season, to go with another three assists (Transfermarkt), having missed a few games due to injury.

However, given that he is expected to play centrally for Tite’s men, he will be hoping to be among the goals in Qatar. Sorensen, who won over 100 caps for Denmark, believes that the Spurs star will lead Brazil to World Cup glory.

He told Optus Sport: “Statistics say the top goal scorer is going to get around six. So, I am tipping Richarlison to get six goals and take Brazil to the Championship.”

Meanwhile, Harry Kane is going into the tournament in terrific form, having found the back of the net 13 times in the first part of the campaign, and former Celtic forward Scott McDonald backed the England captain to win the Golden Boot yet again.

He said: “Could Harry Kane be the only guy to win two Golden Boots? I think he can and he will.”

That is a prediction that fellow Aussie Mark Schwarzer was in full agreement with. The former Middlesbrough goalkeeper said: “I am going to go Harry Kane. Massive fan of him. England will go far enough in the tournament for him to finish top of the list.”

Given the number of chances that Brazil create, Richarlison is certainly one of the favourites to win the Golden Boot. Kane can, of course, never be counted out but England’s cautious style means that they do not tend to create too many opportunities. Lautaro Martinez is also one of the top contenders as Argentina are expected to go quite far in the tournament.
