Pundit predicts things would have been heated in the tunnel after Spurs vs Man Utd

Micah Richards has blasted Cristian Romero for screaming into Harry Maguire’s face after the Manchester United defender scored on own goal in the second half on Saturday.

Maguire turned Sergio Reguilon’s cross into his own net on the 72nd minute to help Spurs level the game 2-2.

Before going to celebrate with his teammates, Romero decided to rub salt into the England defender’s wounds by shouting in his face.

However, it was Man Utd who had the last laugh as Cristiano Ronaldo headed home from a corner to complete his hat-trick in the 81st minute, helping the Red Devils walk away with all three points.

In fact, it was Romero who appeared to be at fault for the goal, with the Argentine losing Ronaldo, who he was seemingly supposed to be marking.

Richards has questioned what motivated Romero to have a go at Maguire given what the Man Utd star has been going through off late.

The former Manchester City defender insisted that the United man would have confronted the 23-year-old in the tunnel after the game.

Richards told The Monday Night Club (14/03/22) about the incident: “No, no, no. It’s going off in the tunnel afterwards. It’s one of the most disrespectful things you could do on the pitch.

“And Romero has been in such good form of late, he doesn’t need to do that nonsense.

“What made it worse is Harry Maguire has been going through such a bad time, so to get an own goal you know what he’s going through.

“It’s getting heated in the tunnel. I’m not condoning violence, but yes.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Romero is clearly a very emotional and fiery character and he seems to have a hard time controlling himself on the pitch. While I found that characteristic to be endearing in Erik Lamela, I do not think it is particularly helpful for central defenders, who need to have a calm head on their shoulders.
