Pundit predicts whether Spurs or Arsenal will finish higher in Premier League

Gabriel Agbonlahor has backed Tottenham to finish above Arsenal in the Premier League this season as a result of their activity on transfer deadline day.

Tottenham were one of the busiest clubs on the final day for both incomings and outgoings, seeing two players come in and four depart.

Spurs completed separate deals for winger Dejan Kulusevski and midfielder Rodrigo Bentancur from Juventus, while Tanguy Ndombele, Giovani Lo Celso and Bryan Gil exited on loan (Evening Standard).

The most surprising move was Everton’s acquisition of Dele Alli – a move that was said to have shocked Spurs who were expecting to shift the 25-year-old out on loan (The Athletic).

Across the North London divide, it was a quieter deadline day for Arsenal, whose biggest move was buying out the contract of ostracised striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (The Times).

Former Premier League striker Agbonlahor believes Tottenham’s activity, with the incomings of Kulusevski and Bentancur, could give them an edge over their bitter rivals and feels they will end up finishing ahead of Mikel Arteta’s side.

Agbonlahor told Football Insider: “They’re good players. The manager, Conte, will know the players from his time at Inter Milan and will know what they are capable of. For me, it’s definitely good business.

“At least Spurs have brought in some players. Arsenal have let so many players go and not brought in anybody. Spurs have let players go but brought some in.

“Spurs have had a better window than Arsenal and I’d back Spurs to finish ahead of Arsenal now.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham needed to be active in January and they certainly were. The two acquisitions were good, maybe not enough, but there was a lot of decent work done in terms of outgoings. The main thing is they will be playing unlike the outgoings, so it should give the squad a bit of a boost.
