Former Liverpool defender turned pundit, Stephen Warnock, has backed Tottenham Hotspur to get a win against Arsenal at the weekend, and it’s all thanks to Ange Postecoglou’s impact at the club.

The early days of the Ange Postecoglou era at Tottenham have been beyond successful so far. The Lilywhites are currently second in the Premier League table after a run of four straight wins and an unbeaten start to the league campaign.

A dramatic late win over newly-promoted Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon maintains that brilliant start to the season for Spurs, with stoppage-time goals from Richarlison and Dejan Kulusevski delivering all three points for Postecoglou.

Tottenham have already overcome one big challenge against a top-six rival earlier this season when they prevailed 2-0 over Manchester United at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

However, an even sterner test is up next for Postecoglou’s men, as the North London derby awaits.

Stephen Warnock thinks Spurs can beat Arsenal

Last season’s Premier League runners-up Arsenal will play host to their fierce rivals on Sunday, in what will be a fascinating match-up so early in the season. Speaking to Sky Sports, Stephen Warnock admitted he fancies Spurs to take the win from the Emirates this weekend, because of the Ange-ball effect.

He said: “It’s a style of football that, I wouldn’t say it’s open and expansive, but it’s efficient and it’s pleasing on the eye. You want to watch it. It’s the type of football where, he understands how to hurt opposition players, which sounds really simple, but it’s not.

“He’s putting players in positions where they know they can affect a game. When you go on a training pitch or to a new club, you have to give the players ideas on how to win a football game.

“The players know the ideas are there and are actually coming to fruition. He’s given them ideas, the freedom to play, a structure to play from.

“They’re pressing with an energy, which is different to what we’ve seen in recent years. When you sit back and invite pressure on, it’s very difficult to go through the gears. Now, when they get the ball, they’re looking to go to that next level and he’s got them playing some brilliant football.”

On the upcoming fixture, Warnock added: “I don’t see why [they can’t sustain it for the whole season]. I do actually think they’re capable of beating Arsenal, I really do.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Honestly, away from home against Arsenal is not the kind of fixture we normally win and I am not about to put those kinds of expectations on the team.

Yes, we have started the season well, but this is still early days of a big process. That said, if anyone can go to the Emirates and get a win for Spurs, it’s Ange Postecoglou and his style of aggressive play.
