Pundit questions Pochettino’s admission of frustration over Spurs star

Former Leeds United defender Danny Mills has revealed that he understands why Mauricio Pochettino expressed his frustration during yesterday’s press conference.

The Tottenham Hotspur manager admitted that he is unhappy with Lionel Scaloni’s decision to select Giovani Lo Celso for Argentina’s upcoming matches against Brazil and Uruguay later this month (Daily Mail).

Lo Celso picked up a hip injury while on international duty in September and has only made two substitute appearances for Spurs since, which have totalled just 13 minutes of action.

Despite understanding the position which Pochettino is in, Mills revealed he has no sympathy for the Spurs manager as he knew that he brought the South American to the club that he would have to jet off around the globe to represent his country.

Mills told Football Insider: “As a manager, of course you get frustrated but what do you expect? You’ve bought an Argentinian. You know that they’re going to have to fly, you know that the South Americans, they play in every international going.

“You know they’re going to travel, you know they’re going to come back jet-lagged, maybe a little bit fatigued. Why buy them? I understand that they get frustrated, he’s coming back from injury and when you go away international, if you’re not going to play you don’t get the physical training you need to get up to speed.

“On the flip side, you know when you sign an international player, you know exactly what’s going to happen.”

Pochettino has had a rare full week with his players on the Hotspur Way training pitch to prepare for tomorrow afternoon’s trip to Everton in what is a crunch match for both sides.
