Pundit relays what he has heard about Maddison’s opinion on Postecoglou

Trevor Sinclair has been discussing the merits of James Maddison and revealed that he has heard the playmaker is impressed by Ange Postecoglou.

Maddison has been a standout performer for Leicester City over the last two seasons, but was unable to prevent the Foxes from being relegated to the Championship during the 2022/23 campaign.

The England international bagged ten goals and contributed nine assists last season (Transfermarkt) and is now highly likely to jump ship and remain in the Premier League next season.

Tottenham have been linked to Maddison for months now, and the 26-year-old is thought to be a priority target for Ange Postecoglou this summer (Telegraph).

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Spurs are set to make an approach for Maddison this week as they look to add to the signings of Guglielmo Vicario and Dejan Kulusevski during the current transfer window.

Maddison is impressed by Tottenham’s new manager

Speaking to talkSPORT, Trevor Sinclair has explained why Maddison and Spurs would be such a good fit for one another.

He said: “Historically Tottenham have always had a ball-playing midfielder. Someone who can hold onto the ball, who is technical, can look after it and try things, not be too safe, and I think that’s James Maddison.

“I think he would be a massive addition for them, for anyone in the league as a squad player, but for Spurs I think he could go right in there and be a starter.

“From what I hear, Ange Postecoglou impresses him. But he’s got to understand that if he wants to play for Postecoglou at Spurs, he’s got to work off the ball as well, not just on it.

“That’s an area where I feel if he wants to get to the next level he could work harder off the ball, so if he wants to go and work for Postecoglou he’s got to put in the hard yards.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Maddison is already an incredible player, but you get the feeling that his move this summer will really help him step up his game and become one of the very best in the league for his position.

He did such a good job in a struggling Leicester side, so it will be fascinating to see what he can do in a better team. Hopefully, that team is Spurs.
