Pundit reveals one area of Spurs side which Mourinho will look to ‘really strengthen’

Reacting to reports that Jose Mourinho and his coaching staff want to build the team around Giovani Lo Celso, former Hull City defender Alex Bruce believes strengthening the Tottenham defence will be Portuguese’s biggest priority in the summer.

Lo Celso put in a man of the match performance for Spurs during their 2-0 win over West Ham last week, with the midfielder continuing from where he left off prior to the suspension of the league.

After initially finding himself on the bench when Jose Mourinho first arrived at Tottenham, the Argentine played himself into the Spurs boss’ plans and is now a vital part of the midfield.

Reports last week revealed that Mourinho is convinced that Giovani Lo Celso is set to explode into stardom and is prioritising additions at areas including right-back, centre-back and defensive midfield when the transfer window opens.

Bruce is not surprised that Mourinho wants to strengthen at the back given the strong attacking core which Spurs possess.

Reacting to the report about Lo Celso, the pundit told Football Insider: “He has looked very impressive, he’s a good player and when you’ve got players like that you do want to build your squad around them.

“I’m sure he’ll be wanting to bring in a few more additions as well to add to the likes of Lo Celso, Harry Kane, Son, Dele Alli.

“I think he’ll be looking to strengthen in defensive areas, I think that’s one area that he thinks to really strengthen and I’m sure he’ll do that given the right player becomes available.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Based on the various rumours until this point, it looks like centre-back, right-back, defensive midfield, winger and striker are the areas where we are looking to strengthen this summer.

I do not expect us to make five signings under the current financial circumstances but managing three or four would still make it a solid summer.
