Pundit reveals why he felt sorry for Kulusevski during Spurs win over Man City

Micah Richards admitted that he felt sorry for Dejan Kulusevski during Tottenham’s 3-2 win over Man City, given how much work the Swede had to do defensively.

Kulusevski could not have dreamed of a better outcome in his first start for Tottenham with the Swede picking up a goal and an assist as Antonio Conte’s pulled off a memorable win away at the Premier League Champions.

The 21-year-old admitted to Sky Sport Italia after the game that the feeling was even sweeter as he had struggled mentally with his lack of game time at Juventus earlier this season.

The winger was not only a threat on the counter-attack down the right throughout the game but he also worked his socks off defensively.

Richards praised the Swede’s defensive effort, pointing out that City overloading the left side made things difficult for Kulusevski, particularly since Emerson Royal was not coming out to deal with the threats of Raheem Sterling and Joao Cancelo.

The former Man City defender told Saturday Night Football on Sky Sports: “Cancelo has been outstanding.

“Sterling started on the right, then he came onto the left. Just can’t deal with him.

“I feel a little sorry for Kulusevski defensively. Emerson Royal is staying a little bit deep. But they are exposing that side.”

It is evident already that both Kulusevski and Bentancur are team players, who are willing to work their socks off for the side. They also seem quite tactically astute and capable of carrying out instructions, which makes them perfect fits for Conte’s set-up.
