Jamie O’Hara has lambasted Eric Dier for his latest performance and claims Tottenham Hotspur should have got rid of the player over the summer.
Dier is now one of the longest-serving Tottenham players in the squad, with only Ben Davies and Hugo Lloris having moved to North London before him.
From his time in central midfield under Mauricio Pochettino, to adapting to life as a centre-half with Jose Mourinho, Dier’s Spurs career has featured plenty of highs. However, more recently, things haven’t gone quite as well for the 29-year-old.
Dier didn’t even feature in Ange Postecoglou‘s first five matchday squads, and only made his first appearance of the season against Chelsea last week, coming on as a substitute amid the madness of that game.
Given Cristian Romero‘s suspension and Micky van de Ven‘s hamstring injury, Dier was handed a rare start for the game against Wolves on Saturday. Sadly, Spurs lost the game in injury time, despite leading for almost the entire match.
Is Eric Dier to blame for Wolves defeat?
According to Jamie O’Hara, Dier was at fault for both of Wolves’ goals, and showed why he should not be playing for the Lilywhites.
O’Hara told talkSPORT (5:35 pm, November 11, 2023): “Eric Dier for me, two mistakes, in no man’s land for both goals. I don’t know where he is trying to go.
“He is back at the football club again. We should have got rid of him in the summer. No one wanted him, and he ended up back in the team.”
Spurs Web Opinion
I thought Eric Dier played fantastic against Chelsea, especially under the circumstances. To then throw all that hard work away in the next game is really disappointing. We should let Ashley Phillips or Alfie Dorrington partner Ben Davies in the next game instead.
