Pundit shares how much Spurs need to spend to fix ‘awful’ squad problems

Micah Richards believes Tottenham need to spend at least £100 million this summer to address the squad’s current problems.

Spurs are experiencing a large dip in form having suffered a third consecutive defeat in the Premier League. The Lilywhites were beaten 2-0 at home to Wolves on Sunday which has seen them drop down to eighth-place and seven points off the Champions League places.

Spurs played their way into trouble against Bruno Lage’s side with defensive errors seeing them concede two goals in 20 minutes, which proved to be the difference in the encounter.

While January signings Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski featured heavily in the match, former Premier League defender Richards believes Spurs still need to spend heavily to improve the squad this coming summer.

Richards said on the Football Daily podcast (14/02/22): “Awful, absolutely awful and he [Antonio Conte] should have known that when he was offered that job, but it’s not Conte’s problem.

“In the summer he needs to spend £100m plus get some proper players in and players who can actually perform.

“£100m plus I would go, maybe £150m, £200m whatever you can get. They need ready-made players. Conte is a winner, he doesn’t have time to wait for these young players.”

The Spurs squad is still a long way off being competitive and the week just gone has shown that. For the ambitions of getting back to the Champions League, the defence cannot perform like it has been doing recently. The summer is a key point in where the club stands in backing Conte though.
