Pundit skeptical about whether Spurs would want 44-year-old manager

Former Dutch manager, Jan Boskamp believes that Arne Slot is not likely to be Tottenham’s preferred candidate to take over from Antonio Conte.

The speculation linking Slot with a move to Spurs has been growing steadily over the last couple of weeks since The Times first reported on March 24 that the Feyenoord boss is on the North London club’s radar.

Journalist Valentijn Driessen also backed up the claim last week, confidently asserting to Voetbal Primeur that the Dutch coach is on Tottenham’s shortlist to replace Antonio Conte.

The Daily Star were the latest publication to report on Tottenham’s interest in Slot, revealing on Sunday that the Feyenoord boss is part of a four-man shortlist at Spurs, alongside Julian Nagelsmann, Vincent Kompany and Thomas Frank.

When quizzed about his future a couple of days ago, Slot refused to commit his future to the Eredivisie club beyond the summer (1908.nl).

Various Dutch pundits discussed the speculation linking the 44-year-old with a move to Spurs on the most recent episode of the TV program, Veronica Offside, (as relayed by Soccer News).

During the program, former Ajax striker Wim Kieft said about the rumours: “Foreign clubs do look at what he does at the club: he made the Conference league final; he has a clear style of play and he is the Mark Rutte among Dutch football coaches. He is verbally very strong.”

However, when fellow panellist Wilfred Genee suggested that Slot would be leaving Feyenoord at the end of the season, Boskamp responded: “Why? I heard that Tottenham Hotspur wanted him, but the number one on the list is Vincent Kompany. He is 20 points off in the Championship.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Tottenham will likely not be the only club that show interest in Slot this summer as what the 44-year-old has achieved in a short space of time at Rotterdam is remarkable.

However, I do not think the Dutch coach will be at the top of Spurs’ wishlist as the club would want someone with a more illustrious CV to convince the likes of Kane of their ambition.
