Pundit slams Spurs for signing Bissouma instead of Premier League midfielder

According to Jamie O’Hara in an appearance on talkSPORT (8:35am, December 19, 2022), Tottenham Hotspur missed a trick not signing Brighton’s Alexis Mac Allister in the summer.

Mac Allister has enjoyed a fantastic start to the season with Brighton, scoring five goals in 14 appearances so far in the Premier League (Transfermarkt).

The creative midfielder carried that form into the 2022 World Cup, helping Argentina lift the coveted trophy with some impressive displays throughout the tournament.

Mac Allister was one of the star performers for the South American side in Qatar, contributing a goal and an assist for his country (Transfermarkt).

The 23-year-old’s displays during the World Cup have been enough to catch the eye of several top clubs in Europe, with L’Interista reporting that Tottenham Hotspur, Juventus, Inter Milan, and Atletico Madrid are all keen on signing Mac Allister.

Tottenham Hotspur signed Mac Allister’s Brighton teammate Yves Bissouma in the summer, but O’Hara believes the club made a mistake and should have acquired the Argentine star instead.

He said: “I mean, he has been unbelievable. What a tournament he has had! I couldn’t believe how fantastic he was. I thought he was exceptional. I can’t believe he is at Brighton.”

On the idea of Spurs signing Mac Allister, O’Hara added: “I think big clubs are going to come in looking for him. We signed Bissouma. I mean, why did we sign him when we could have got Mac Allister?”

“If you are Newcastle, Man United, Liverpool, even Man City. I would be looking at Mac Allister and going, ‘I will tell you what. That is some player we could have in our side.'”

Spurs Web Opinion

For one, Yves Bissouma and Alex Mac Allister are very different players so it’s not like Spurs compared them and decided to signed one and not the other.

Secondly, Bissouma had been Brighton’s standout player over the last two seasons, so we made the right move in securing his services, and now that Mac Allister has come into form, we can hopefully look at bringing him in too. The one thing O’Hara is right about there is, it will be a battle to sign him.
