Pundit suggests ‘brilliant’ La Liga star would be ‘very good signing’ for Spurs

Kevin Campbell has claimed Tottenham should entertain a move to sign Memphis Depay from Barcelona this summer.

Depay has been in strong form this term having netted 10 goals in 19 La Liga appearances as Xavi’s side have turned around their fortunes (TransferMarkt).

Spurs are said to have launched a bid to sign the Dutch forward, according to Italian journalist Gerard Romero on his Twitch channel (14/02/2022 – 1:52:20), in a move to bring him back to the Premier League.

And former Arsenal striker Campbell believes Spurs should push to sign a player of Depay’s quality this summer and worry about where the likes of Dejan Kulusevski and Lucas Moura fit into the equation later.

He told Football Insider: “That’d be a very good signing. He’s a brilliant player. Obviously, it didn’t quite work out for him before at Man United.

“He’s had a decent spell at Barca but maybe is falling down that pecking order with Aubameyang coming in and with the way Xavi wants to play. He doesn’t really fit.

“Memphis Depay won’t want to come to be an understudy to Kane or Son. He will be coming to play.

“So Conte needs to find a way to fit those three in, and then decide what that means for the likes of Kulusevski and Moura.”

Depay secured a switch to Barcelona last summer after seeing his contract at Lyon reach its conclusion. His stint with the Ligue 1 outfit came after a short spell for United, although he failed to live up to expectations during his time at Old Trafford.

Spurs Web Opinion

Depay has always been one of the most exciting forwards but there is a question of where he would fit at Spurs, especially with the arrival of Kulusevski.

He won’t want to play behind Kane in the pecking order and there is Son to fit in as well, but if there is a way of making him fit then it should be one to keep an eye on.
