Pundit suggests Harry Kane would be taking a ‘step down’ if he left Spurs

Jamie O’Hara has suggested Harry Kane would be better off staying with Tottenham Hotspur and breaking the Premier League goalscoring record, rather than taking a ‘step down’ to join Bayern Munich.

With a year left on his current contract, speculation is mounting around Kane‘s future at Tottenham, with suggestions he may be ready to move on in pursuit of silverware.

The 29-year-old is coming off the back of an incredible season in terms of his own goalscoring feats. Kane bagged 30 league goals last term (Transfermarkt) and broke multiple records along the way.

Most notably, the Spurs star moved ahead of Wayne Rooney in the Premier League all-time goalscoring charts, and now needs just 47 goals to match Alan Shearer’s long-standing record as the division’s most prolific marksman.

However, German giants Bayern Munich are circling Kane and recently had an initial bid of €70m (£60.2m) plus add-ons turned down by Spurs (Sky Sports). The Bundesliga side are expected to return with an improved offer soon (Telegraph).

Harry Kane should stay in the Premier League

In a recent appearance on talkSPORT, Jamie O’Hara was adamant Kane should stay in England and played down the value of a move to the Bundesliga.

He said: “Would you rather the Premier League scoring record or a Bundesliga title which you’re almost guaranteed to win? It’s like going to PSG.

“Do we really care about Bayern Munich over here? We don’t, do we? We talk about Real Madrid because it’s Real Madrid, we talk about Barcelona, but we don’t really go on about Bayern Munich.”

Jason Cundy, also on the show, responded in defence of the Germans, adding: “What you have there is the history of that football club and playing for one of the world greats.

“Are we being a bit unfair on Bayern here? Is it little Englander? It wasn’t that long ago they were getting to the Champions League final and winning the Champions League against PSG.”

O’Hara replied: “I know, but I feel like the Premier League is so big it’s almost like a step-down.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I don’t want Harry Kane to join Bayern Munich as much as the next Spurs fan, but to claim a club like Bayern are in some way lesser than Spurs and the Premier League is ludicrous.

Yes, the Bundesliga is less competitive than the English top flight, but Bayern are one of the biggest teams in Europe.
