Pundit suggests Spurs would have to agree to a sell-on clause to sign 18-year-old

Paul Robinson has said that it would take a big offer for Tottenham to land Archie Gray this summer and urged the youngster not to make a step up to a bigger club too soon.

Gray has been a revelation since breaking into Leeds’ starting eleven at the start of this season, with the midfielder having become a vital cog in Daniel Farke’s set-up.

The 18-year-old has shown maturity beyond his years in the Championship and his displays have allegedly alerted several Premier League sides, including Spurs.

It was reported by Football Insider a few weeks ago that Ange Postecoglou is keen to add another defensive midfielder to his squad and had set his sights on the Championship starlet.

The outlet claimed that the Lilywhites could end up battling the likes of Liverpool, Crystal Palace and Everton for the teenager’s signature this summer.

Archie Gray will cost a lot of money this summer

Robinson has now suggested that Leeds would demand a big fee for Gray this summer and he told the youngster that he should not be in a hurry to leave Elland Road this summer even if his side fails to win promotion.

When asked about the speculation over the midfielder’s future, the former Spurs and Leeds number one told Tottenham News: “I think the player is in a very fortunate position where he’s had an excellent season this season. His valuation is a valuation that will please Leeds United this season, it’s a very strong valuation and one that will carry.

“He will cost a lot of money if he is to be taken away from Leeds and the thing with that type of deal from the club’s point of view is the add-ons you’d put in the sell-on clause if that was to happen.

“When certain targets and certain achievements are met over his career then that will always be a drip feedback to Leeds United.

“But I don’t for one moment think that a promotion or a campaign in the Premier League is vital to his career, I think whether he has another season in the Championship or the Premier League, or a move, whatever’s best for his development because he can handle it. He’s shown he can handle it.”

Johan Lange has made it clear that Tottenham want to be seen as the go-to destination for the best young talent in England and around the world, which is why I have no doubts at all that Spurs will be seriously considering a move for Gray, who has all the attributes to develop into a top midfielder.
