Football pundit Gabby Agbonlahor told TalkSPORT on Wednesday morning (8:41 AM) that Tottenham Hotspur would benefit from having a player like Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard in their squad.
Odegaard rose to prominence in his native Norway before sealing a move to Real Madrid in 2015, but things never really worked out for him at the Spanish giants. While he made 62 appearances for their B side, he only turned out 11 times for the first team (Transfermarkt).
He spent some time on loan with Dutch sides Heerenveen and Vitesse, and Real Sociedad in La Liga, before spending the second half of the 2020/21 season on loan with Arsenal.
Arsenal made that move permanent in the summer of 2021 (Sky Sports) and Odegaard hasn’t looked back since. He has been an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s rebuild at Arsenal, and was named club captain this summer.
It’s been a fantastic season so far for Odegaard, too. He has six goals and two assists in 19 games across all competitions this term (Transfermarkt).
According to Agbonlahor, that creative presence is exactly what Tottenham are lacking; a player who can connect the defence and the attack, and add goals and assists to the team.

He said: “For Tottenham, it would be nice to get a four [in defence], two [midfield] and then an Odegaard like Arsenal have got – someone who can get on the ball, a number 10 to feed the front three. It would be nice for Spurs to have that option.”

I have to admit, Martin Odegaard is an incredibly impressive player and he would fit the description of exactly what we are looking for in a playmaker. Obviously, we are never going to sign Odegaard from Arsenal, but there are certainly players out there who are similar – Alexis Mac Allister comes to mind, for a start.
