Pundit thinks 24-year-old Postecoglou target already ‘looks like a Spurs player’

Ally McCoist has said that Jota is just the sort of player that Tottenham fans would love to watch, given his ability to take players on and make things happen in the final third.

It has been widely reported over recent weeks that Spurs are plotting a move for Jota in January, owing to the injuries they have in their forward line.

The latest such update came from The Times on November 27, with the outlet claiming that the Lilywhites have stepped up their efforts to sign the former Celtic man after Ange Postecolgou gave them the green light to do so.

The report added that Al-Ittihad are expected to make the 24-year-old available on loan in January and that Tottenham are expected to pounce on him.

Is Jota the perfect January reinforcement for Spurs?

When asked about Spurs’ rumoured interest in Jota, McCoist has now talkSPORT (28/11/23): “Good player. Listen, I thought he was a terrific player, a real talent.

“I’m not sure actually Celtic have replaced him, to be honest with you, but he’s obviously had his problems, he wasn’t in the team at all out there was he, he’s not been playing.”

Jota is unproven in any of Europe’s top-five leagues but McCoist believes that the winger will be a hit at Spurs if the North London club secure his services.

When asked if the Portuguese star can succeed in the Premier League, the pundit responded: “Yes, and he looks like a Spurs player as well. He takes people on, he’s quite easy on the eye, and he’ll score his fair share of goals. I think he’d be an interesting signing.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I am personally not convinced that Jota would be a success in the English top flight as the Scottish League is on par with League One in terms of quality.

Having said that, the fact that the 24-year-old knows Postecoglou’s system well and is available on loan would make him an appealing option for Spurs.
