Jeff Stelling has said that Kyle Walker-Peters, who Tottenham are rumoured to be interested in re-signing this summer, is one of the best full-backs in England at the moment.

Walker-Peters has developed impressively since swapping Spurs for Southampton back in 2020 and it came as a surprise to many when the right-back stayed put with the Saints after their relegation from the Premier League last season.

The 27-year-old has helped the South Coast club bounce straight back up to the top-flight via the playoffs but his future at St Mary’s is in doubt as he only has a year left on his contract (Transfermarkt).

It has been widely reported over the last few weeks that Tottenham are now plotting a move to re-sign their academy graduate.

The latest outlet to make that claim was GiveMeSport, who pointed out that Walker-Peters’ ability to play in either flank and his homegrown status appeals to Ange Postecoglou’s men.

Kyle Walker-Peters is the real deal at Southampton

Stelling believes that there are not too many better right-backs in the Premier League than the England international at the moment.

Speaking about Southampton’s promotion, the journalist told talkSPORT (27/05/24 at 6:25 am): “There will be some players in that squad, who by getting themselves promoted, will have played themselves out of a new deal.

“But I look at some of the base, and you mention Adam Armstrong. Stuart Armstrong, David Brooks, Harwood-Bellis who is going to be staying, Che Adams, Flynn Downes, who has been brilliant.

“And Kyle Walker-Peters, for me, he is one of the best fullbacks in the country, regardless of which division he plays in. They have got a little base and foundation already. He loves Will Smallbone as well, doesn’t he?!”

Spurs Web Opinion

One would expect Spurs to test the waters with an offer for Walker-Peters, given his contract situation. However, the big question is whether the right-back would be keen on a move to Tottenham, knowing that he might not be the first-choice for Postecoglou.
