Pundit thinks Spurs could land rumoured striker target if they offer a ‘huge fee’

Former West Ham United and Celtic striker Frank McAvennie has said that despite Eddie Howe’s recent hands-off warning, Newcastle will likely accept a big offer for Tottenham target Alexander Isak this summer.

Isak has emerged as one of the best centre-forwards in the Premier League since arriving at Newcastle in the summer of 2022 and has become a fan favourite at St James’ Park.

The 24-year-old netted twice in the 4-0 win over Tottenham last Saturday, taking his goal tally for the campaign to 21 strikes across all competitions.

It was reported by The Sun two weeks ago that the Magpies might have to sell some of their players in order to comply with FFP regulations, with Isak potentially being on the chopping block.

The outlet claimed that Newcastle were bracing themselves for bids from both Spurs and Arsenal for the centre-forward, who they allegedly value at £100m.

Should Tottenham make a huge bid for Alexander Isak?

However, Howe dismissed the transfer speculation last week, insisting that the striker is very much part of his plans for next season (Fabrizio Romano).

When asked if he can see the centre-forward leaving Newcastle this summer, McAvennie has now told Football Insider: “Clubs will definitely be looking to sign Isak. There’s Tottenham and Arsenal who both seem keen on him. But Man United would not be a good destination for him as they just don’t create chances.

“You could put Erling Haaland in that side and even he wouldn’t score! They’re a team of individuals, so it would be hard for any striker to go in there.

“I reckon there will be much better teams than Man United coming in for him. He would have to be bought for a huge fee, though. Newcastle could accept that.”

Newcastle have plenty of sellable assets, which is why they would not be in a hurry to sell Isak this summer despite their financial situation. It is going to take a mammoth offer of around £100m to prize away the Swede, which I cannot see Tottenham paying this summer.
