Pundit thinks Spurs players will be furious with ‘stupid’ teammate after last night

Clinton Morrison has blasted Dejan Kulusevski for his decision to pull Danny Welbeck’s shirt inside the box, with the pundit at a loss to explain what the Swede was thinking.

The incident occurred midway into the first half, with the match finely poised at the time, and although the referee Jarred Gillett missed the incident, the Brighton players were convinced that it was a foul.

It was a straight-forward decision once VAR intervened and instructed Gillett to re-watch the incident on the touchline incident, with replays showing that Kulusevski pulled on Welbeck’s shirt just as the Brighton striker was about to run onto the ball.

Joao Pedro converted the resulting spot-kick to make it 2-0, with the Seagulls eventually emerging 4-2 winners on the night.

Spurs squad will be annoyed at Dejan Kulusevski

Kulusevski also picked up his fifth yellow card of the season for that foul, which means that the Swede is suspended for Tottenham’s clash against Bournemouth on Sunday (Football.London).

Morrison did not hold back in his criticism of the Spurs winger, labelling his actions as ‘stupid’.

The pundit told BBC Radio Five Live about the incident: “It’s 100 per cent a penalty, I don’t know what Kulusevski’s doing. He pulls him and he tries to let go.

“He’s pulling his shirt, Kulusevski on Welbeck. It’s a penalty. I don’t know what he’s doing. He’s just pulled it, pulled it. And then he decides, ‘Oh, I’m going to let it go’, It’s a penalty.

“You can’t pull a shirt like that in the box. It’s a stupid decision. I’d go mad. What’s he doing?.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Stupid is the only way to describe what Kulusevski did as you are never going to get away with those types of challenges in the VAR era. The fact that the 23-year-old now has to sit out the clash against the Cherries is a huge blow for Postecoglou, given the whole host of players Spurs are already missing.
