Pundit thinks Tottenham and Chelsea should be taking a look at Wolves man

Garth Crooks believes that Tottenham Hotspur could do a lot worse than hiring Wolves boss Julen Lopetegui this summer.

Tottenham continue to deny that there is any one frontrunner for their managerial hot seat at the moment (Football London).

However, multiple publications have revealed that the likes of Julian Nagelsmann, Luis Enquire, Arne Slot, Xabi Alonso and Ruben Amorim are the names on the club’s shortlist (Evening Standard).

While Lopetegui has not been mooted as a target for the Lilywhites now, he was a target for the club back in the summer of 2021 prior to their appointment of Nuno Espirito Santo.

Sevilla president Jose Castro even admitted at the time that the 57-year-old rejected a ‘dizzying’ offer from Spurs to remain at the La Liga club (Football London).

The Spaniard has done an impressive job since taking over at the Molineux Stadium back in November, boasting a win percentage of 41.67 at the West Midlands club.

Crooks believes that both Tottenham and Chelsea should be taking a close look at Lopetegui.

He wrote in his column on BBC Sport: “Julen Lopetegui has done a brilliant job since his arrival at Molineux. His players have only really let him down once and that was at Brighton.

“The problem for Wolves is, can they keep him? Lopetegui is a first-class manager and I can think of a number of clubs who would benefit from his services – Spurs and Chelsea are just two.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Lopetegui’s career is certainly not on an upward trajectory and the football his Wolves side have played this season is not the brand of football that Spurs fans would want to see.

While a move for the Spaniard might have made sense a couple of years ago, I can see why he is no longer on the radar of top clubs.
