Pundit thinks Tottenham would be the best destination for PL star – Not Arsenal or Liverpool

Steve Nichols has praised Ivan Toney’s goalscoring ability, and insists the Brentford striker would be better off joining Tottenham Hotspur over the likes of Arsenal, Manchester City, or Liverpool in the summer.

It has been an odd year for Ivan Toney. The prolific striker worked his way into the England squad in 2023 thanks to his goalscoring exploits for Brentford, but was found guilty of breaching the FA’s gambling rules shortly after and ended up with an eight-month suspension.

Brentford stood by Toney during that time, and he has repaid them with two goals in two games since his return to action last month (Transfermarkt).

However, the chances of him staying with the club beyond this season are pretty slim, with Toney himself even admitting he would like to join a bigger club and compete for silverware (Sky Sports). And, his club manager, Thomas Frank, has also predicted his star striker will likely leave in the summer (Tipsbladet).

Spurs is the right move for Ivan Toney

Tottenham have long been linked with Toney, as have pretty much every club in the Premier League‘s Big Six. But, according to Steve Nichols, it’s Ange Postecoglou‘s side where Toney would flourish the most, and he should choose them over the other potential suitors looking at him.

He told ESPN: “It’s very difficult to argue with the stats. The guy’s goalscoring record in the Premier League is really, really good. I think Tottenham would be the best destination for him. I don’t believe Liverpool, City or Arsenal is the place for him.”

Spurs Web Opinion

I am incredibly torn on the Ivan Toney links with Spurs. In terms of his goalscoring ability, his hold-up play, and his physicality, Toney would be a great signing for any club. But, at the same time, I’m not 100% sold on his attitude or his absolute suitability for the Posteoglou system.
