Pundit tips Spurs to sign Serie A striker – Says Kane no longer worth £100m

Jay Bothroyd has claimed Tottenham should have accepted a £100 million bid for Harry Kane in the summer and does not believe the club will receive an offer close to that value again.

Kane, 28, was linked with leaving Spurs during the last transfer window with Manchester City showing the greatest interest in the England captain.

Pep Guardiola’s side are said to have submitted a three-figure bid for the striker, but saw the offer rebuffed by Spurs chairman Daniel Levy who was allegedly holding out for a fee close to the £150 million range.

Since the debacle, Kane has struggled in front of goal for Spurs and has just one Premier League goal to his name in 13 appearances and has looked a shadow of the player who swept both the Golden Boot and Golden Playmaker awards last term.

Former striker Bothroyd believes Kane’s lack of form this season will have had a big effect on his valuation and now feels Spurs won’t be able to receive a fee close to their desired asking price again.

He also tipped Antonio Conte’s side to bolster the ranks up front by targeting Fiorentina striker Dusan Vlahovic, who has been said to be heading towards the exit at La Viola.

Bothroyd said on the All To Play For podcast: “I think they will buy someone. I think they’ll buy that Vlahovic from Fiorentina. I like him. He looks like the kind of player who will come and score goals.

“Harry Kane, I think that’s dead now, because he’s not performing. As much as I think he’s one of the best strikers in the world, that £100 million tag, they should have taken it, because they’re not going to get it now.”

Kane’s struggles this season have been well-documented, but he has shown a bit more fight since Conte’s arrival. Obviously, the standards are way below those he set himself last term, and it now seems like the time for him to secure a move has gone.
