Pundit tips Tottenham to re-sign ‘phenomenal’ player who left in 2012

Paul Robinson has suggested that Tottenham have a ‘great chance’ of re-signing Luka Modric at the end of the season.

The 36-year-old has entered the final year of his contract with Real Madrid, placing his future at the Bernabeu into some doubt as he could leave for free at the end of this season.

Modric signed a one-year extension in the summer, however, reports claim Los Blancos are keen to tie him down to a further deal until June 2023.

Although Madrid are confident of reaching an agreement with the Croatia international, there has been plenty of reported interest from the Premier League where he thrived for Tottenham between 2008 and 2012.

As such, ex-Spurs goalkeeper Robinson believes his former side won’t have a better opportunity to make a swoop to re-sign Modric but warns he will have plenty of suitors which would make a potential acquisition difficult.

He told Football Insider: “Do not rule out a return to Spurs. I think they’d have a great chance of re-signing him because he enjoyed his time there. He is still so well thought of there.

“There will be no shortage of takers for him if he wants to come back to the Premier League.

“Regardless of what system a team plays, Modric would fit it. He can play across a three, in a four or in behind a striker.

“We all know the immense talent of Modric. He’s a phenomenal player.”

From his four years at Spurs, you could see just how much talent Modric had and he has carried that on for so many years at Real Madrid.

He is clearly capable of performing at a world-class level at his age but a lot does seem to be pointing towards him signing another extension though.
