Pundit urges ‘sensational’ Spurs player to join Premier League rivals in January

Darren Bent has urged Dele Alli to leave Tottenham and join Newcastle in a bid to rediscover his best playing form.

Despite starting the season well under Nuno Espirito Santo, the 25-year-old has slipped down the pecking order at Spurs and faces a tough task of breaking back into contention.

Alli’s potential was praised by Antonio Conte upon his arrival at Spurs and promised him the opportunity to start games providing he earned the chance to do so, but that hasn’t happened as of yet.

He has played just two minutes of Premier League football under the Italian so far and was substituted after 54 minutes in Spurs’ embarrassing 2-1 defeat to NS Mura in the Europa Conference League.

Reports have since emerged claiming that Spurs would be willing to listen to offers for a loan move for Alli in January, with Newcastle tipped as a potential destination for him in the winter.

Former Spurs striker Bent feels a move to the Magpies would be good for Alli as it would provide him with a platform to be playing regularly again.

He said on talkSPORT (December 14, 9:50 am): “I think he needs to go anywhere where he’s going to play football. I think Newcastle – they need players.

“There’s a player still in there. He’s fallen by the wayside, certainly from those first two seasons where he won back-to-back Young Player of the Year [awards]. He was absolutely sensational.

“He’s lost his way a little bit. But I think if he went to Newcastle, focused on football and got himself back playing again, that’s the most important thing. I think that would work well for all parties.

“He is a good player. Get him to Newcastle.”

Alli needs to play his way in contention, and he is so off form that it doesn’t look close to happening. It has just gone stale for him at Spurs and a move away is definitely the best thing as a freshen-up for both the club and himself.
