Pundit urges Spurs man to snub transfer to the likes of Burnley and Wolves

Former Rangers right-back Richard Foster has urged Cameron Carter-Vickers to stay at Celtic rather than join a mid-table Premier League club in the summer.

Carter-Vickers has been extremely impressive during his loan spell at Celtic, with the centre-back’s solid displays at the back helping the Bhoys build a sizeable lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

Celtic have the option of signing the Tottenham centre-back permanently for £6m and reports indicate that Ange Postecoglou’s side are working to seal the deal ahead of the summer transfer window (The Daily Record).

However, the USA international’s displays have allegedly alerted several Premier League clubs, with the likes of Leicester, West Ham, Wolves, Burnley and Watford said to be monitoring his progress up north (TEAMtalk).

Foster has now questioned why Carter-Vickers would want to join the likes of Wolves or Burnely, given that he could be playing Champions League football at Celtic Park next season.

When asked about interest from the Premier League in the Spurs academy graduate, the former Rangers defender told PLZ Soccer: “I don’t get that. Those teams – Leicester, Burnley and Wolves – I personally don’t get why he’d leave Celtic to go and play at those clubs.

“Stay at Celtic, win championships, play in the Champions League. I just think go and play in the Champions League and do well, and you’ll get a better move than a Wolves or Burnley.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The reality is that the standard of the Scottish league at the moment is comparable to League One. So, players would rather test themselves in the Premier League.

Besides, English football also get a lot more eyeballs and Carter-Vickers’ chances of returning to the USA set-up will vastly increase if he does well in the Premier League.

However, the 24-year-old might want to spend another year or two at Celtic and potentially use the club as a stepping stone to join a relatively big club in England.
