Pundit urges Spurs to appoint former Real Madrid manager if Conte leaves

Jason McAteer has called on Tottenham Hotspur to appoint Zinedine Zidane as Antonio Conte’s successor if they part ways with the Italian.

Following the defeats to Arsenal and Manchester City two weeks ago, there were some suggestions that Conte’s future at the North London club was increasingly uncertain (Daily Mail).

Reports indicated that Mauricio Pochettino and Thomas Tuchel were Spurs’ top candidates to replace Conte (Evening Standard), with TWM even suggesting that the Tottenham hierarchy had already reached out to Pochettino’s camp regarding a return to the club.

However, Alasdair Gold explained in a Q&A on Football.London last week that barring a big fall-out between Levy and Conte, the Tottenham head coach will stay at least until the end of the season.

Back-to-back wins over Fulham and Preston North End have taken the pressure off Conte for the time being but McAteer believes that Zidane would be the right man to replace the 53-year-old at the helm at Spurs.

The former Liverpool and Bolton midfielder told beIN SPORTS (28/01/23 at 5:55 pm): “Tottenham have to get the next manager right. You know who I would give it to if it was free. Zidane! Someone has to get this club believing and playing – they need to start scoring goals in the first half.”

Spurs Web Opinion

The talk of Conte leaving is quite premature, especially considering the signings that Tottenham have made this window. I doubt that the North London club would have spent big on another right wing-back in the form of Pedro Porro if they felt that the Italian was not the man to take the club forward.
