Pundit urges Tottenham to sign Valencia star instead of Weston McKennie

Danny Murphy has urged Tottenham to snap up Yunes Musah rather than his compatriot Weston McKennie.

Plenty of reports over recent weeks have backed Tottenham to make a move for McKennie when the January transfer window opens (Ben Jacobs).

The 24-year-old has been a bit-part player for Massimiliano Allegri this season, with Fabrizio Romano even telling CBS Sports two weeks ago that there is a ‘serious possibility’ that Juventus will cash in on the USA international when the transfer window opens.

However, Tottenham’s pursuit of McKennie will not be straightforward, with Borussia Dortmund (Tuttosport) and Chelsea (CalcioMercato) also thought to have their eye on the attacking midfielder.

Murphy has now opined that Musah is much more likely to break into Tottenham’s starling eleven than his international teammate McKennie.

The 20-year-old has come on leaps and bounds since his switch to the Mestalla in 2020, and Murphy believes that he would be a ‘wonderful’ addition to Antonio Conte’s side.

The pundit told Lord Ping (as relayed by Football.London): “As for McKennie, he is a good player. I think Musah is better. I think he would be a wonderful signing for Chelsea or Spurs.

“He’s got really good attributes on the ball. He is strong and fit. I think if you’re looking at not having to spend as much he is a wonderful talent.

“I don’t think he’s not going to score as many goals as someone like Bellingham. At 19 his composure in the games and his strength is really good.

“McKennie is not bad, but I don’t think he would get a shot in the midfield over Bentancur and Hojbjerg, but I think Musah will challenge. I think Musah would be the more sensible one.”

It is worth noting that Conte is likely to be on the lookout for a number eight rather than another number six, given that he already has the likes of Hojbjerg, Bentancur, Bissouma and Skipp at his disposal. That is perhaps why the likes of McKennie, Malinovskyi and Kudus would be more appealing options for Spurs than the likes of Mac Allister and Musah.
