Pundit warns Jose Mourinho that these three Spurs stars could cost them the title

Former Aston Villa striker, Gabby Agbonlahor has warned Jose Mourinho that his three senior centre-halves, Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier and Davinson Sanchez, are not good enough to carry Spurs to the title.

After chopping and changing in the first few games of the season, Mourinho now seems to have settled on a pairing of Alderweireld and Dier as his first-choice partnership at the back.

The pair have started all three Premier League games since Tottenham’s late collapse against West Ham and have put in solid displays, with the North Londoners conceding only once in their wins over Burnley, Brighton and West Brom.

Mourinho has other options at his disposal beyond the aforementioned three including new singing Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga, who returned to training last week, and Ben Davies who has also been used as a left-sided centre-half in the Europa League.

While Agbonlahor refused to rule Tottenham out of the title race, he insisted that their centre-backs will leak a fair few goals this campaign.

The pundit told Football Insider: “You know what? I can’t say Spurs can’t win because it’s a strange season, it’s really strange.

“You win a game you move up four places you go down four places.

“Spurs will be up there in the top four, but I just don’t see them winning the league because of their defence, I don’t think their defence is up to scratch, really, and they will concede goals.

“I look at their centre-backs and I just see there’s goals to be leaked there. They haven’t got that big centre-half who is going to get you out of trouble.

“Alderweireld, Sanchez, Dier, they’re okay defenders but I don’t think they’re the ones who are going to take Spurs to a title.”
