Pundits rave about left-back who is said to be on Tottenham’s summer radar

Former Rangers midfielder, Alex Rae, and former Celtic defender, Mark Wilson, have both provided a glowing assessment of Rangers left-back Borna Barisic, a player said to be on Tottenham’s radar this summer.

Danny Rose is expected to leave Tottenham on a permanent basis this summer (Football. London) and the Lilywhites could be in the market for a left-back.

90 min reported earlier this month that Spurs could make a move for Barisic when the transfer market opens, with Rangers valuing him at around £22 million.

The 27-year-old has already registered a staggering fourteen assists in all competitions so far this campaign  (transfermarkt).

Napoli are also said to be interested in taking the Croatian international to the San Paolo Stadium in the summer (Gazzetta Dello Sport).

Both Rae and Wilson had no hesitation in picking Barisic in their respective teams of the season for the Scottish Sun.

Speaking about the defender, Rae said: “He performs at good level week-in, week-out and has terrific quality in the final third of the park.”

Wilson added: “He’s the best left-back in the country. He’s improved his defending and supplies assists and is a threat at set-pieces.”

Spurs Web Opinion

While Barisic has been impressive this campaign, signing him would be a gamble as he is I unproven in the top European leagues. While he is obviously a threat going forward, I have my doubts as to whether he is good enough defensively to cope with the Premier League.
