‘Punish him’ – Spurs star explains how they solved Richarlison outburst issue

In an interview with ESPN Brazil, Eric Dier has opened up on how the squad solved the issue of Richarlison’s public outburst last week.

After Tottenham were knocked out of the Champions League earlier this month, Richarlison gave a scathing interview to ESPN Brazil about how Conte and Stellini had dropped him without any explanation (as translated by the Daily Mail).

Conte then reacted to the Brazilian’s comments by explaining that players can sound selfish when they start using the word ‘I’ instead of ‘us’ (Football.London).

However, Richarlison apologised and was actually back in the starting XI against Nottingham Forest last weekend, putting in one of his best performances in a Spurs shirt.

Eric Dier has now revealed that the squad dealt with the issue internally and there is no reason to continue punishing their teammate for his mistake.

Dier suggested that Richarlison must learn to control himself a little away from the pitch.

He said (as relayed by The Express): “Yes, of course, I think we solved it between us. And that is among us

“I think from the moment we solved it, we started saying ‘we will not continue to talk about it, or continue to punish him’.

“It happened, we solved between us and that’s it. Now is time to move on.

“I think he made a great game today. It’s his quality of him, he plays with the heart, lives with the heart. And sometimes he has to be able to control it in the best way off the field.”

Spurs Web Opinion:

You have to be careful as a player when giving this kind of interview, otherwise it does very much sound as though you are in it for yourself rather than the team.

Have those arguments and talks internally, of course. But not to the press.
