Luka Modric has lavished praised on AS Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo, who is rumoured to be on Tottenham Hotspur’s radar.

Zaniolo is quickly establishing a reputation as one of the rising stars in Serie A, with his performances over the last couple of seasons propelling him to the limelight.

His technique and guile on the ball, in particular, has stood out as the 20-year-old has evolved into one of Roma’s main attacking outlets.

Tottenham were linked with a move for the Italian international last summer (Mirror) and have once again been backed to make an attempt to sign him when the transfer market opens this year (Leggo).

However, Roma sporting director Gianluca Petrachi has vowed that the Serie A club will do everything in their power to keep Zaniolo at the club (Sky Italia).

Modric, who knows a thing or two about dominating matches at the top level, has admitted that he has been left extremely impressed by the rumoured Spurs target’s ability.

Speaking to Gazzetta dello Sport, the former Tottenham star said: “Favorite players? I’ve always liked stylish players; Totti, Del Piero, (Andrea) Pirlo. Now, there are young people who promise a lot, above all Zaniolo, a pure talent.”

Spurs Web Opinion

Zaniolo is out of our reach this summer as we would not be able to afford the substantial asking price Roma are likely to demand for him. I believe we missed out on our one big chance to land him, which was last summer. However, I doubt we would have pushed through with a move for Giovani Lo Celso had we signed the Roma star.
