QPR boss speaks on future of Spurs-linked Eberechi Eze after leaving him out of squad

Queens Park Rangers manager, Mark Warburton has hinted that Eberechi Eze was left out of the club’s pre-season friendly on Saturday due to potential developments over his future.

The 22-year-old enjoyed an exceptional season in the Championship last time out, notching 14 goals and eight assists in the league (transfermarkt.com).

Tottenham were installed as the favourites to sign the QPR star back in March but the Lilywhites no longer look to be the front-runners for his signature.

The Athletic’s David Ornstein has since claimed that Crystal Palace and West Ham United are the furthest ahead in negotiations for the attacking midfielder, while The Sun have claimed that Leeds United are also keen on bringing him to Elland Road.

Amidst the speculation surrounding his future, Eze was left out of QPR’s squad for their 3-0 win over AFC Wimbledon on Saturday.

When asked about the midfielder’s absence, Warburton did little to deny the speculation about the QPR star joining a Premier League club.

Speaking after the game, Warburton told Sky Sports: “He’s (Eze) a QPR player but there are a few bits and pieces going on.

“What we have to do is just respect that and look after a guy who has come through the ranks here, and he’s one of ours.

“We look after all of our players. It was the right decision [not to play him] today and we’ll see what happens in the coming days.”

Reading between the lines of Warburton’s comments, it does appear that QPR are close to reaching an agreement on Eze’s sale. Reports seem to indicate that the 22-year-old is likely to join Leeds. Let’s hope that we do not come to regret our decision to not sign Eze.
