‘Race still open’ – Fabrizio Romano provides Raphinha update, including Spurs

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Arsenal have scheduled a meeting with Leeds United next week to discuss a move for rumoured Tottenham target Raphinha.

Raphinha is reportedly on the radars of Barcelona, Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea, with The Athletic revealing last week that while moving to Camp Nou is the winger’s preference, the Catalan club’s pursuit of the winger is being held up by their financial problems.

Mundo Deportivo subsequently claimed that Leeds had run out of patience with Barca and did not believe the La Liga club would be able to meet their asking price or the winger’s salary demands.

The report added that the Elland Road hierarchy were thus negotiating the Brazilian’s sale to Premier League clubs.

This was then followed up by a report in Sport claiming that Arsenal had pulled out of the race for Raphinha’s signature after agreeing on a deal with Manchester City to sign Gabriel Jesus.

However, Romano has now taken to social media to reveal that both the Gunners and Barca are very much in the race for the Leeds star.

He explained that while Mikel Arteta’s men are expected to meet with Leeds next week to discuss a deal for the 25-year-old while Spurs and Chelsea are still in talks with the player’s representatives.

Spurs Web Opinion

It sounds like there is nothing advanced yet regarding Raphinha’s future and so, there could still well be plenty of twists and turns in this saga.

I suspect that Paratici views the winger as a potential alternative to Richarlison if a deal for the Everton star proves unfeasible.

So, I do not think Spurs would accelerate talks for the Leeds star unless they hit a roadblock in their pursuit of Richarlison.
