‘Radical change’ – Spurs player on what Conte has done compared to Nuno’s reign

Pierluigi Gollini has praised the impact Antonio Conte has had following his arrival at Tottenham Hotspur.

Gollini arrived at Tottenham as one of Fabio Paratici’s first signings when he joined on a season-long loan deal from Serie A outfit Atalanta.

The 27-year-old experienced working under Nuno Espirito Santo following his move to England with Portuguese calling upon the shot-stopper to appear in the Europa Conference League and Carabao Cup until his dismissal in November.

Gollini has admitted that Conte’s arrival signalled a complete transformation at the club and something which was missing which has greatly benefitted the players from a physical and mental point of view.

The Athletic reported in November that Nuno was often brought up in conversations between staff and players as being ‘distant’, ‘uncommunicative’ and having ‘zero charisma’ compared to those who had occupied his role previously.

Gollini told Gazzetta Dello Sport’s SportWeek: “Everything has changed since Conte arrived.

“He brought everything that was missing, both to the club and to the group. Since his arrival, there has been a radical change from the point of view of mentality and work.

“Conte is also very human: he understands the players very well and knows how to adapt his work to the team he has at his disposal.”

Conte has been a breath of fresh air at the club and one can only wonder where Tottenham would be in the Premier League table if they had managed to appoint him at the start of the season, rather than having to endure Nuno’s nightmare stint.
