Rafael van der Vaart reacts to Tottenham’s North London derby win

Former Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has taken to social media to express his delight at the Lilywhites beating Arsenal in the North London derby.

Van der Vaart is fondly remembered by the Tottenham faithful, with some even allocating legendary status to the Dutchman even though he only spent two years in North London.

Part of the reason for that was that the midfielder always turned up during derby day, putting in match-winning performances against the Gunners.

His celebrations when he found the back of the net against Tottenham’s old enemy showed that he certainly understood what the game meant to the fans.

Yesterday’s derby was much more of a tactical battle compared to Van der Vaart’s time at the club, when both teams often went for broke and attacking each other right from kick-off.

Spurs produced a mature display as they went two-nil up in the first half through two blistering counter-attacks and shut shop after the interval, denying the away side anyway through.

This is how Van der Vaart reacted to Tottenham’s 2-0 win:
