Ramon Vega questions why Spurs star was overlooked for Ballon d’Or nomination

Former Tottenham Hotspur defender Ramon Vega has questioned why Heung-min on has been left out of the running to scoop the 2021 Ballon d’Or award.

The 30-man shortlist was announced on Friday which saw Harry Kane among the nominees along with the likes of Robert Lewandowski, Kylian Mbappe, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.

Son was in remarkable form for Tottenham last season, which saw him score 22 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions for the North Londoners while also providing 17 assists in an impressive partnership with Kane.

The prize was not awarded in last year because of the Covid-19 pandemic, with Messi scooping the men’s award for a record sixth time in 2019.

Vega took to Twitter to reply to a Tweet from the official Spurs account in which the ex-Swiss international posed the question about the 29-year-old.

It looks as if Tottenham’s failure to be playing Champions League football could be one of the main reasons for why Son has been overlooked for the nomination.

Son has started the new season in considerably better form than Kane and will surely be hoping his name is on the list next time around.
