RB Leipzig send message on Twitter about striker heading to Tottenham

Tottenham Hotspur will square off against RB Leipzig in the last sixteen of the Champions League.

The first leg will take place at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium next Wednesday with the return tie scheduled in Germany for Tuesday March 10th.

One player who Spurs will need to keep a close eye on is Timo Werner, the striker has scored 20 goals in 21 appearances in the Bundesliga this season (transfermarkt).

A Tweet by German news outlet Sport Bild’s head of football Christian Falk claimed that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is keen to bring the forward to Anfield this summer with the player having a transfer release clause of around €60million in his current contract.

RB Leipzig’s Twitter account responded to the rumours this morning when they jokingly claimed that they heard Werner is instead heading to Tottenham.

The German side were stating the obvious about the 23-year-old being part of Leipzig’s squad which will head to North London next week.

Spurs boss Jose Mourinho was spotted at the Allianz Arena at the weekend to watch Leipzig play out a 0-0 draw at Bayern Munich (Express).
