RB Leipzig Sporting Director directly addresses Marcel Sabitzer to Spurs rumours

RB Leipzig sporting director, Markus Krosche has confirmed that rumoured Tottenham Hotspur target Marcel Sabitzer is attracting plenty of interest ahead of the January transfer window.

Sabitzer had the best season of his career last time out as Tottenham are only too aware of, with the Austrian helping his side to knock the North Londoners out of the Champions League in the round of 16.

It was reported back in March that Spurs were eyeing a move for the Austrian international and the speculation linking him with a transfer to the Lilywhites has intensified over recent days.

The Evening Standard claim that Tottenham want to bring in the versatile attacking midfielder as a replacement for Dele Alli should the England international depart in January.

Turkish journalist, Ekrem Konur said on Monday that the 26-year-old had informed Leipzig that he wants to join Tottenham.

However, Krosche has now insisted that the German club still hope to agree on a new deal with Sabitzer, although he refused to deny or confirm Spurs’ interest.

He told Bild (as relayed by Football.London): “We wanted to end the year first, both sides will deal more intensively with the topic in the spring.”

When asked directly about Spurs interest, he added: “As I said, he has made a great development. It goes without saying that other clubs also notice this.

“I don’t like singling out anyone individually. But Marcel Sabitzer has really developed well.

“I also deal with him outside of the field. He accepts the role of captain extremely well and has matured even further as an individual.”

Krosche has not ruled out the possibility of Sabitzer leaving the club in January, which suggests that a deal potentially could be on. I suspect the chances of Spurs signing him would depend on whether or not they are able to find a buyer for Dele Alli in January.
