RB Leipzig star linked with Spurs drops hint on his immediate future

Reported Spurs target, Marcel Sabitzer has dropped a hint to Bundesliga.com that he wants to stay at RB Leipzig amidst interest from abroad.

Both Spurs and Arsenal were linked with the Austrian winger in March by Calciomercato.com. However, the 26-year-old has suggested he will remain at Leipzig next season as he intends on helping Die Roten Bullen to lift the Bundesliga trophy.

He said: “Yeah, as I said, we’re a young team so it’s not always easy – especially when a lot of noise comes from outside, asking whether we’ll win the league, can we do it, all that.

“So that adds a bit of pressure and perhaps one or two people think about it too much and it holds you back a bit.

“We’ve experienced that now, and we have to learn how to deal with it. And next year we want to go for it again, if possible.”

Sabitzer scored twice in the second-leg when Spurs played Leipzig in this season’s Champions League round of 16.

The winger netted twice within the opening 21 minutes of the game, all but sealing his side’s place in the quarter-finals.

In the 2019/20 Bundesliga campaign, Sabitzer has featured 30 times for Leipzig (Transfermarkt). In those appearances, Sabitzer has netted on nine occasions and recorded eight assists.

Spurs Web Opinion

This would be quite the signing if it ever happened, however, the chances are highly unlikely. He has excelled at Leipzig – as we experienced first hand. However, I don’t see where the space in the starting XI would come from to accommodate him at the minute.
