The Argentine was handed a fresh start following the appointment of Ange Postecoglou last summer which saw him remain as part of the Tottenham first-team squad rather than head out on loan as he had done so in previous transfer windows.

Having arguably been Tottenham’s best player during the pre-season friendlies leading into the 2023/24 campaign, his season hasn’t exactly gone to plan.

The 28-year-old only started four Premier League fixtures under the Australian in a stop-start season having suffered a few injuries which hampered any chance of building up consistency (transfermarkt).

Real Betis want deal for Giovani Lo Celso

Saturday’s print edition of Marca (26/5/24) have now claimed that Real Betis consider the midfielder as a ‘dream target’ to return to his former club.

Lo Celso moved from the La Liga outfit make the switch to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a £27.2m deal back in January 2020 having joined the club initially on loan in the summer of 2019.

It is said that Betis have already taken the first steps to bring Lo Celso back to the club as a replacement for Nabil Fekir, who is tipped to leave the Estadio Benito Villamarín this summer.

Given Lo Celso’s current contract situation, Tottenham need to cash in on the South American this summer to try to recoup as much of their transfer outlay as possible.

Lo Celso showed glimpses of the levels of performance that he displays while on international duty with Argentina, however, sadly he could not make a regular impact under numerous managers in N17.

Postecoglou will certainly want as much funds as possible summer to reinvest into his squad for the second window under his management and that will mean a number of exits of fringe players, which looks likely to include Lo Celso, Bryan Gil, Ben Davies among others.
