Real Madrid prepared to wait to lure Tottenham boss

Real Madrid president Florentino Perez wants caretaker manager Santiago Solari to stay in charge until he can convince Mauricio Pochettino to leave Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The Spanish giants are currently looking for a new manager after sacking former Spanish coach Julen Lopetegui last week following a disastrous start to the season.

Madrid are said to be keen admirers of the Spurs boss, who was heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu this summer when Zinedine Zidane decided to resign after leading them to their third successive Champions League crown.

Pochettino put pen to paper on a new five-year contract at Tottenham in May. Earlier this week he compared rumours linking him with the vacant Real Madrid job to being looked at by an admirer in the street.

However in an interview with the Guardian, he did once again state that he is happy to remain at the Premier League side and win trophies.

Manchester United’s Jose Mourinho and Belgium’s Roberto Martinez are also said to be on Madrid’s managerial shortlist.
