Both Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino and Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp have received a lot of plaudits over the last few years for the way they have transformed their respective clubs.
While Klopp has guided Liverpool to the second position in the table and has taken them to the finals of the Champions League for a second year in succession, Pochettino has ensured that Spurs have finished in the top 4 for the fourth season running, and has guided the Lilywhites into their first ever Champions League final.
With neither manager having won a trophy during their time in England, Saturday’s game represents a great opportunity for one of the two to break their duck by landing the biggest prize in European football.
Klopp’s and Pochettino’s lack of silverware hasn’t stopped them from being linked with Europe biggest clubs with both managers said to be interesting Real Madrid last summer (The Independent and The Telegraph).
Ahead of the big final, Real Madrid president Florentino Perez has confirmed his admiration for the German and the Argentine. While Perez insisted that he hasn’t moved for either of them yet, he didn’t rule out a possible move for them in the future.
Speaking to Onda Cero, Perez said, “Klopp and Pochettino are phenomenal. I’ve never tried to sign them, but that doesn’t mean we won’t try to in the future.”
Spurs Web Opinion
It is certainly not surprising that Perez is a fan of Klopp and Pochettino as both are among the best managers in the world. Zinedine Zidane’s appointment at Real Madrid has certainly been a huge boost for Spurs as otherwise, Perez would have almost certainly wanted Pochettino.
Let’s hope the Argentine stays and creates a legacy at North London, beginning with the Champions League triumph on Saturday.
